Dialin setup

The TU/e provides for a dialin service, with local telephone access in all locations in the Netherlands. You need to have access to a regular Windows account on the TUE domain in order to access the service.

This guide is based on Windows XP. Other versions of Windows might have other dialogs, but the settings should remain the same. Users of other operating systems are on their own; however it will probably only be necessary to specify the correct phone number.

Setting up the modem

  • Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
  • Click on Phone and modem options
  • You will see the following dialog:
    Phone and modem options

  • Select the Dialing rules tab.
  • If there is no profile yet, please click on New. If there is an existing profile, you can modify it by selecting it and clicking Edit.

  • Enter the country and location number from which you normally call.
  • If your modem is located behind a home telephone exchange, and you need to call a number in order access outside phone lines, enter this number at To access an outside line for local calls, dial.
When your exchange requires a pause between this number and the telephone number, enter a comma to insert such a pause.
  • Click on OK and then OK again to leave the Phone and modem options control applet.

  • In the Control Panel, doubleclick on the Network Connections icon.
