| Title: |
Travelling
waves in systems of balance laws
|
Abstract
|
Systems of conservation laws with source terms
arise e.g. as models for water waves, reactive flow or tumour
propagation. The corresponding hyperbolic PDEs typically possess a
large variety of travelling wave solutions which may have some
discontinuities ("shocks"). In many situations a small regularizing
effect ("viscosity") has been neglected and it is a nontrivial singular
perturbation problem to study the travelling wave equation with small
viscosity. In the talk I will show how the existence of travelling
waves can be proved and how these travelling wave solutions can be used
to find more complicated solutions of the underlying partial
differential equations.
