Heat Transport in
the Hadley center climate model Eric van der Swaluw
|
Abstract
|
I will
present results of a study which investigates the global heat transport
from the equator to the poles using the Hadley Center Climate model.
More in particular I will discuss the (Bjerknes) compensation mechanism
in the heat transport variations from the atmosphere and the ocean.
Using data output from a pre-industrial control run of the Hadley
Center Climate model, we find a maximum compensation rate at a latitude
of 70N on decadal timescales. At this latitude the ocean forces the
atmosphere, which lags by 1 year. I will elucidate the mechanism of
Bjerknes compensation at 70N latitude using a statistical analysis.
