Analysis
of stretched grids as buffer zones in numerical simulations of
hyperbolic equations
|
Abstract
|
Stretched
grids together with artificial viscosity are often used to damp out
outgoing waves in numerical simulations of hyperbolic or mixed
hyperbolic-parabolic equations e.g. aeroacoustic simulations.
The objective of the present study is to get a better understanding of
wave propagation in stretched grids in order to construct grids that
together with the numerical scheme can act as efficient buffer zones
that are easy to use.
We present an analysis of the influence of grid stretching together
with artificial viscosity on numerical solutions of the 1D wave
equation when higher order accurate methods are used.
Preliminary numerical simulations will be presented to illustrate the
analytical results.
