Initial estimates for
obtaining Periodic-Steady State solutions of free-running circuits
(Master's Thesis presentation)
|
Abstract
|
With
the development of integral circuits in the recent decades, electrical
oscillators have more and more important technological applications. We
will focus on the free-running autonomous oscillator which has a
non-trivial Time-Periodic Steady-State solution (PSS) in the absence of
an external time-dependent input signal. The goal is to determine this
PSS solution efficiently. Here also the period T is not known a priori.
The solution satisfies a nonlinear system of Differential-Algebraic
Equations.
Several methods have been implemented to determine the PSS solution:
Harmonic Balance (in the frequency domain), or (in the time-domain) the
Finite-Difference method or the Shooting method, or the waveform Newton
method.
All these methods need a good initialisation for the nonlinear solver:
a good prediction for the period and a good approximation for the PSS
solution. With a trend to increase frequencies these initializations
become more and more important.
My thesis presents a method for finding good predictions for T, and for
the oscillation solution. It also is a good example for solving a
nonlinear eigenvalue and eigenvector problem. After introducing the
method, several examples will be shown that show the performance of
this method.
