Soil carbon and global change: The BioChar case
|
Abstract
|
In this presentation
the important role of soil in the global carbon cycle will be addressed
and an overview of the soil management practices and their impact on
soil C budget will be given. Especial emphasis will be put on the
impacts of charcoal and the BioChar initiative which has been recently
proposed as a novel alternative for C sequestering and whose actual
effects on soil C storage are not yet clear. The potential and advances
of mathematical modelling to solve this and other questions in soil
ecology will also be depicted.
