Interpolation and approximation in more dimensions (1) |
|
Abstract
|
| After a short introduction of one-dimensional
interpolation,
we will consider interpolation in more dimensions. We discuss some
aspects
of comparing different methods, and show how methods can be classed
into
different groups, like Inverse distance weighted methods, Rectangle
based
blending methods, Foley's methods, etc.
In this first seminar on this subject we focus on
interpolation by polynomials.
The main subject is the problem of characterizing the location of
sample
points that guarantees poisedness of Lagrange interpolation by
multivariate
polynomials. A proof will be given for one specific configuration of
sample
points.
