Linearized theory of
elasticity
|
|
Abstract
|
For small deformations the field
equations of linearized isotropic isothermal elasticity are a proper
model for the mechanics of a solid. The stresses, strains and
displacements are uniquely defined for given boundary conditions for
the displacement of traction. The stresses and strains can be
eliminated, resulting in Navier's displacement equations. For plane
elasticity in 2D the Airy stress function can be used to express the
solution. In 3D the solution can be expressed in scalar and vector
potentials such as the Papkovich-Neuber potentials.
