Boundary Element Method
|
|
Abstract
|
This final talk in the series of
continuum mechanics seminars will cover the method of boundary
elements. A brief overview of its advantages over other element
methods and a description of an application to a simple 2D potential
problem will be presented. The boundary element method is an
approach where the differential equations describing the physical
behavior within a domain are transformed into integral identities that
are applied on the boundary of that domain. This boundary is then
divided in to elements and when satisfactory boundary conditions are
applied a numerical integration around the boundary produces a system
of linear algebraic equations that can be solved to produce a unique
solution.
