Engineering Statistics with Statgraphics

General info:

Methods from the field of Engineering Statistics have proven to be quite helpful when designing new products, modeling manufacturing systems or controlling the quality of production processes. Implemented in easy-to-use statistical software like Statgraphics these methods are within reach of nowadays’ Engineers. However, there is a need to learn how to apply these statistical tools adequatelly to practical engineering data. In the CEE/e-course ‘Engineering Statistics with Statgraphics’ techniques for Exploratory Data Analysis, the use of probability and probability distributions, tests for differences between treatments or groups, estimation of model parameters and modeling variable relationships are discussed and underlying principles are explained. Furthermore, the use of representative statistical software like Statgraphics is demonstrated and participants get the opportunity for hands-on experience using Statgraphics for Engineering Statistics.

The following topics will be treated:

• Introduction and Overview.
• Exploratory Data Analysis.
• Probability and Probability Distributions, Normal
  Distribution, Sampling Distributions.
• Statistical Testing of Hypotheses, Comparing Groups,
  Operating Characteristics.
• Estimation of Parameters and Group Differences.
• Correlation and Simple Linear Regression Models.
• Interpretation and Presentation of the Results.

After successful completion of the course participants should be able to apply standard methods for Engineering Statistics independently. Furthermore, they have obtained a solid basis for successfully attending more advanced courses on engineering or applied statistics, as offered within the CEE/e initiative.

Documentation Will be handed out at the beginning of the course.
Language The language of communication can be either Dutch or English, to be decided by mutual arrangement with the participants.
Prerequisite knowledge Elementary acquaintance with probability, probability distributions and descriptive statistics.
Form Partly theory, partly hand-on experience.
Course duration 3 days.
Schedule Date unknown. This course is not yet scheduled.
Maximum number of participants minimum: 10, maximum: 20.
Remarks The course is also available on request.
The course is part of the CEE/e- certificate program
"Applied Statistics for Product and Process Design".
