Cascading Style Sheets

Originally HTML is a language with emphasis on structure and with limited lay-out possibilities. The increasing need for more lay-out possibilities has lead to
  • Entangement of structure and lay-out
  • Browser dependent elements and attributes
  • Browser dependent reproduction of HTML documents
  • Tricks to accomplish certain effects
Style sheets, especially Cascading Style Sheets, offer the possibility for
  • Separation of structure and lay-out (the original goal of HTML)
  • Description of the lay-out (presentation) in terms of rules of style (instead of HTML attributes)
  • A browser-independent reproduction of the document
Documentation Will be handed out at the beginning of the course
Language The documentation used in this course is in English.
The language of communication can be either Dutch or English,
to be decided in mutual agreement with the students
Prerequisite knowledge Some knowledge of HTML
Form Partly theory, partly hands-on experience
