Admittance Criteria and Certification

The number of students is limited to 25 students/year for the IAM-CSE M.Sc. There will be a careful selection of the participants.

Costs: Any student at a Dutch university has to pay a tuition. The costs of living and housing in Eindhoven are approximately 600 euros per month. Information on possible scholarships and grants one can find here.

The admission policy of the TU/e requires previous diplomas, additional skills and knowledge of applicants to be of high quality; they should be at an appropriate level and relevant in nature. It is also expected that the student will be highly motivated. A selection committee will evaluate each applicant's capability to complete the study at the TU/e successfully in two years, and will decide on the admission or rejection of each individual student. Based on the documents submitted by the applicant, and possibly on additional testing and a personal interview, the selection committee will make its selection decisions taking into account the following points:

  • The applicant should hold at least a B.Sc. degree (or equivalent) from his/her previous study, which should meet standards of quality and level. In addition, the previous study programme should contain sufficient engineering or technical aspects. Consequently:
  • The major of the previous study should fit the M.Sc. course. This will normally be the case if the previous diploma was obtained from a technical or engineering faculty and the study programme is in the field of mathematics, science or engineering
  • The Grade Point Average (GPA) of the previous study should prove to be of high quality. This will normally be the case for GPA = 8.50 or higher (on a 10.00 scale). Therefore, apart from the general application form, a student should fill out the so-called AFCSE form.
  • For non-native English speakers there is an English proficiency requirement. Students should submit one of the following test results:
  • Full information on the formal admission requirements of TU/e is available at the master's programmes site of STU.
  • Please fill in the general application form of TU/e, available at this link: application form. Note that you should apply for the master's programme Industrial and Applied Mathematics, specialization track Computational Science & Engineering (IAM-CSE).

In individual cases, the committee will decide whether any exceptional circumstances, compensations or alternatives should allow for deviating from one or more of the selection criteria above. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide the selection committee with any relevant proof, documents and/or arguments that may support these exceptions, and the applicant should do so on his/her own initiative. Exceptional circumstances may result in conditional admission.

Prospective students should send in an application form. Among other things it contains questions about the level and background for studying Computational Science & Engineering. This information is essential and applications without this will not be considered further. It will give us a proper idea about the level and skills of the prospective student. One should fill out the proper sections of general application form of the Eindhoven University of Technology. It is recommended to start as early as possible with providing the required information and to perform the necessary formalities.
