The topic will concern the external and internal noise, control and noise reduction. This subject is of prime importance to the aeronautic industry for several reasons: environment purposes, comfort and security. Also the use of new composite material gives rise to heavier vibrations and noise problems that need to be addressed. This event will include two major items to be presented and discussed:

1. September 27th: State-of-the art lectures delivered by scientific and industrial experts in the field of acoustics and discussion panel. Planning of forthcoming activities of the WG on Acoustics with representatives and participants.

2. September 28th: Preparation of the forthcoming database workshop document. Identification and selection of test cases potentially relevant to the performance evaluation of methods in the fields of external/internal noise mathematical modeling, coupling of the two, and related innovative computational methods. This preparation implies:

a. A forum for proposing relevant problems
b. Setting up a committee to select the retained subset of test cases of interest for industry
c. Setting up a panel of people in charge (one per test case), each one responsible for:
i. Gathering information from experts to accomplish the complete scientific and technical description of a test case, and write a booklet of description
ii. Installing a formatted file into the database to make this definition available to the European Community of potential contributors

There will be a special presentation by Jean-Antoine Desideri to explain the database followed by a panel discussion for members of the working group and invited specialists. Test cases will be established. The forthcoming events (Open Industrial Days and Workshops) will be drawn up for 2001--2002
