Location: Utrecht, ADD (Achter de Dom 22-29), room 001

11:15-13:00 speaker: Roberto Fernández (Rouen) title: Cluster expansions for hard-core systems: Overview and convergence results (2)

abstract:

Lecture 2: Convergence results: The proofs

I will analyze three types of proofs and their associated convergence criteria:

(1) The ``classical'' proof based on tree-graph inequalities,
(2) inductive proofs putting analyticity first, and
(3) further improvements exploiting Penrose identity.

additional material: Find here the slides of Roberto Fernández' first lecture on February 8, 2008 (1MB).

14:15-16:00 speaker: Vladas Sidoravicius (Amsterdam) title: Modified Diffusion Limited Aggregation (DLA) and recurrence of Markov chains

abstract:

In my talk I will focus on the modified version of DLA growth model, which was introduced at the same time as the "classical DLA" of Sander and Witten.
The main difference is that in the modified DLA growth model multiple moving particles can be present in the system at the same time.
I will discuss various mathematical problems related to the study of this system.

Based on joint works with Harry Kesten.
