PINPAS JC: Side-Channel Analysis of JavaCard.

Aim and Scope

This is the successor project of PINPAS ( Program Inferred Power Analysis in Software) that ran till April 2004.

In PINPAS JC project we will investigate power and fault analysis of smartcards, in particular for JavaCard programs and platforms, and we will develop both high-level and byte-code level techniques to alleviate identified weaknesses. In interaction with industry the research will be exploited in case-studies and demonstrators both for applets and virtual machines.

The project runs from the begining 2005 to the end of 2010.

The PINPAS JC project is funded by SENTINELS , the Dutch research programme for Information Security. The project is a cooperation of two academic partners, viz. the the Security of Embedded Systems (SEC) group of Technische Universiteit Eindhoven and the Digital Security (DS) group of Radboud University Nijmegen and two industrial partners, viz. ST MicroElectronics, Zaventem, Belgium and BrightSight, Delft, the Netherlands. Founding has been acquired from the Sentinels programme, the Dutch research programme for ICT security, for two PhD students (in Eindhoven and in Twente) and two post-doctoral position (in Eindhoven and in Nijmegen).
