One of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption of a ship is to improve the hull form design. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) plays an ever-increasing role to achieve this, as it permits extensive design studies prior to any model testing. Instead of using one CFD-computation, automatic optimization procedures can be used to evaluate a series of hull forms. more

Cancer is a very heterogeneous disease. Correspondingly, the molecular signaling in each cancer cell is wired differently. We have developed computational models which estimate the relative importance of signaling pathways in individual cancer cell lines. In order to further explore these estimates of signaling activities, it is necessary to visualize the signaling along with the model structure. Such visualization would be particularly useful for communicating about the computational models with experimentalists and clinicians. more

Deze applicaties maken niet alleen gebruik van gegevens die door de politie zelf worden verzameld, maar ook van gegevens van externe partners (bijvoorbeeld Rijkswaterstaat, Belastingdienst, etc.). Daarnaast verstrekt de politie ook gegevens aan externe partners (bijvoorbeeld o.b.v. een wettelijke verplichting, of o.b.v. een convenant). Dit geeft een complex netwerk van gegevensuitwisseling tussen applicaties van de politie en die van externe partners. more

The Customer Experience Activity within Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs is looking for an intern to work on visualization of flowcharts that specify business processes. Such a flowchart specification serves as input to a workflow engine, which executes/coordinates the task that is defined by the flowchart. The flowchart is designed by a domain expert (in our case usually a telecom customer service expert) via a graphical interface. Every execution of the flowchart is recorded in a log file, and the recorded data can be used to monitor, analyze, and optimize the flowchart. more
