Description

ARGOS is a software product developed at FEI Company whose aim is to provide functionality for the analysis and visualization of three dimensional electron microscopy data sets. At the heart of ARGOS is a 3D template matching algorithm that finds the location and orientation of objects of interest inside the data. Another important aspect of ARGOS is the visualization of both match parameter setup and the match results in a comprehensive way, such that scientifically sound conclusions can be drawn.

This graduation project focussed on improving and extending the visualization functionality of ARGOS. In particular,

  • an improved and more natural visual interface for setting template matching parameters,
  • comparison of various volume rendering algorithms for combined visualization of template match results and their input data, and
  • a user study to determine which visualization can best be used to show the template match results for multiple (very similar) templates.
