The Personal Space Station (PSS) is a desktop virtual reality system,
developed at CWI.
The direct 3d interaction of the PSS enables researchers to inspect
and manipulate data effectively.
More information about the PSS can be found
here.

Principle
- By using stereoscopic projection on a mirror the user
experiences the virtual environment to be behind the mirror.
- The user reaches with his hands behind the mirror to manipulate
the virtual environment, using physical objects linked to
virtual objects.
- Cameras are used for wireless tracking of objects.

|
Molecular applications
- Inspection and manipulation of large molecular structures.
- Existing package
"VMD,
Visual Molecular Dynamics" ported to the PSS and extended with
direct 3D interaction.
- Interaction: movement of molecule in hand, selection of atoms,
measuring of distances and angles within molecule.

Medical applications
- Inspection of medical data
(e.g. from simulations and from CT-scans).
- Different visualizations for the best understanding of data.
- Interation by movement of data in hand and by selection
of data using a selection tool.
