The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)

Formed 1 July 1881 by merger of 42nd Regiment of Foot and 73rd Regiment of Foot.

1st Battalion
Formed September 1739 as The Earl of Crawford's Regiment by amalgamation of Independent Companies.

3rd (Volunteer) Battalion The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)

Formed 13 December 1994 with Headquarters at Queen's Barracks, Perth by redesignation of similar designated units of 1st Battalion 51st Highland Volunteers .

COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Queen's Barracks, Perth.
A Company at Dundee.
B Company at Forfar.
K Company at Kirkcaldy.

1 April 1995: Battalion converted into Fire Support Battalion.
'B' Company at Forfar became Milan Pltn under 'A' Company. 'K' Company formed Milan Pltn at Perth.
 

1 July 1999: Battalion disbanded as result of the Strategic Defence Review.
'HQ' Company at Perth and 'A' Company at Dundee redesignated as 'HQ' and 'A' Company 51st Highland Regiment;
'K' Company reduced to rifle platoon under 'A' Company.
