Formed 1 September 1958 by merger of 1st Battalion The King's Regiment
and 1st Battalion The Manchester Regiment.
5th/8th (Volunteer) Battalion The King's Regiment
Formed 1 April 1975 with Headquarters at Peninsula Barracks, Warrington by reorganisation of 1st Battalion Lancastrian Volunteers.
COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Peninsula Barracks, Warrington by redesignation
of 'HQ' Company 1st Battalion Lancastrian Volunteers.
A Company at Warrington. New formed.
B Company at Townsend Avenue, Liverpool by redesignation of
'B'
Company 1st Battalion Lancastrian Volunteers.
C Company at Ardwick Green, Manchester by redesignation of 'C'
Company 1st Battalion Lancastrian Volunteers.
D Company at Townsend Avenue, Liverpool by redesignation of
'B'
Company 2nd Battalion Lancastrian Volunteers.
1984: 'E' (HSF) Company formed at Liverpool (or Warrington)
and Manchester.
'A' Company at Warrington and 'D' Company at Liverpool
changed title.
21 Sepember 1992: Battalion reduced to three rifle company establisment
and companies adopted subtitles.
'D' Company at Warrington disbanded or merged with 'HQ' Company.
'B'
Company at Liverpool merged into 'A' Company. 'E' (HSF) Company
disbanded.
New 'V' Company formed by transfer 'V' Company 1st
Battalion 51st Highland Volunteers.
COMPANIES:
HQ (The Lancastrian) Company at Peninsula Barracks, Warrington.
A (The King's Liverpool) Company at Townsend Avenue, Liverpool.
C (The Manchesters) Company at Ardwick Green, Manchester.
V (The Liverpool Scottish) Company at Score Lane, Liverpool.
1 July 1999: Battalion disbanded as result of the Strategic
Defence Review.
'A' Company and 'C' Company redesignated as 'A' Company
and 'C' Company The
King's and Cheshire Regiment respectively.
'HQ' Company became part of 'B' Company The King's and Cheshire
Regiment; 'V' Company reduced to platoon under 'A' Company
The
King's and Cheshire Regiment.
