Formed 22 June 1940 as The Parachute Corps.

1st Battalion
Formed early 1940 as No.6 Indep Coy [Cdo].

2nd Battalion
Formed 30 September 1941 as 2nd Parachute Battalion.

3rd Battalion
Formed 30 September 1941 as 3rd Parachute Battalion.


4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Parachute Regiment

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Pudsey by amalgamation of 12th/13th (Yorkshire and Lancashire) Battalion The Parachute Regiment (TA) and 17th (9th Durham Light Infantry) Battalion The Parachute Regiment (TA).

COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Pudsey from 12th/13th Battalion.
A Company at Grace Road, Liverpool from 12th/13th Battalion.
B Company at Oldham from 12th/13th Battalion.
C Company at Gateshead from 17th Battalion.
D Company at Stockton on Tees from 17th Battalion.

1975: Support Company formed at Rochdale. disbanded 1977.

11 July 1984: '16' (Lincoln) Company formed at Lincoln with det at Leicester by transfer from 15th Battalion.

6 April 1993: Battalion absorbed 15th Battalion  and reduced to three rifle companies.

COMPANIES:
12 (Yorkshire) Company at Pudsey with 16 (Lincoln) Det at Nottingham from 'HQ' Company and '16' Company.
13 (Lancashire) Company at Edge Lane, Liverpool with B Det at Oldham by amalgamation of 'A' Company and 'B' Company.
15 (Scottish) Company at Glasgow with Pltns at Edinburgh and Aberdeen and det at Glenrothes. Formed by amalgamation companies 15th Battalion.
17 (Durham) Company at Hebburn with MG Pltn at Stockton on Tees by amalgamation of 'C' Company and 'D' Company.

1 May 1999: Battalion reorganised as result of the Stratefic Defence Review.
'12' Company became rifle company and absorbed elements '17' Company;
Aberdeen and Glenrothes detachments '15' Company closed;
'17' Company absorbed by '12' Company, MMG Pltn moved to Edinburgh;
'13' Company disbanded.

1 July 1999: Battalion absorbed 10 Battalion  and underwent final reorganisation.

10 (London) Company at White City, London with 'A' Detachment (Mortar Pltn) at Croydon. From 'HQ' Company and '2' Company 10th Battalion.
12 (Yorkshire) Company at Pudsey with 4 Pltn at Hebburn and Recce Pltn at Nottingham.
15 (Scottish) Company at Glasgow with 'B' Detachment (MMG Pltn) at Edinburgh.

1 April 2000: Recce Pltn at Nottingham moved to Pudsey.
 

Some notes on locations of support platoons:
ATk Pltn: formed 1967 at Gateshead. 6.4.1993 at Troon, moved 1994 to Glasgow; disbanded 1.4.1995. Reformed 1.4.1997 at Oldham. Disbanded 1.7.1999.
MMG Pltn: formed 1967 at Oldham, moved 1984 to Liverpool, then to Stockton. Replaced by MMG Pltn at Edinburgh.
Mortar Pltn: formed 1967 at Liverpool, disbanded 1.4.1995. Reformed 1.7.1999 in 10 Coy.


10th (Volunteer) Battalion The Parachute Regiment

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Chelsea, London from 10th (County of London) Battalion The Parachute Regiment (TA).

HQ Company at White City, London.
1 Company at White City, London.
2 Company at Croydon with det at Blackheath, London.
3 Company at Finchley, London.

November 1971: Support Company formed at Aldershot with Mortar Pltn at Leigh-on-Sea.
1 April 1978: '4' Company formed at Chelsea, London from Defence Platoon 44 Parachute Brigade.

1982?:'5' (HSF) Company formed.

May 1987: Detachment of Atk Pltn formed at Portsmouth.
October 1987: '2' Company formed detachment at St Mary's Cray.

1 April 1992: Battalion reorganised with three rifle companies and one support company.
'1' Company at White City, London disbanded.
Support Group formed Aldershot by redesignation of Support Company.

1 April 1995: ATk platoon and Mortar platoon disbanded.
1 April 1997: Mortar Pltn reformed at Aldershot.
 

1 July 1999: Battalion disbanded as result of the Strategic Defence Review. 'HQ' Company, '2' Company and Mortar Pltn amalgamated as '10' (London) Company 4th Battalion.
 

Note on support platoons:
This Mortar Pltn existed outside the Fire Support Battalions, and was reintroduced to have Parachute trained mortar support. Other support platoons (Recce, MMG and Assault Pioneer) were common for all battalions.


15th (Scottish Volunteer) Battalion The Parachute Regiment

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Glasgow from 15th (Scottish) Battalion The Parachute Regiment (TA).

COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Glasgow.
A Company at Glasgow.
B Company at Edinburgh.
C Company at Aberdeen.

1 April 1978: 'C' Company formed detachment at St Andrews.
'16' (Lincoln) Company formed at Lincoln with det at Loughborough by redesignation 16 Independent Parachute Company. Loughborough detachment to Leicester by 1981.

11 July 1984: '16' (Lincoln) Company transferred to 4th Battalion without change of title.
1984: 'D' (Fire Support) Company formed at Troon.
 

6 April 1993: As result of Options for Change, the battalion disbanded to form '15' (Scottish) Company 4th Battalion.
