Formed 1 July 1992 by amalgamation of The Royal Irish Rangers (27th (Inniskilling 83rd and 87th) and The Ulster Defence Regiment.

1st Battalion
Formed 1 July 1992 by redesignation of 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers.
1 April 1993 disbanded.

2nd Battalion
Formed 1 July 1992 by redesignation of 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers.
1 April 1993 renumbered 1st Battalion.


4th/5th Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1993 with Headquarters at Portadown by amalgamation of 4th Battalion and 5th Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers.

COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Portadown with dets at Armagh and Enniskillen by amalgamation of 'HQ' Company 4th Battalion and 'HQ' Company and 'A' Company 5th Battalion.
A Company at Newtownards by redesignation of 'B' Company 5th Battalion.
B Company at Newtownabbey by redesignation of 'B' Company 4th Battalion.
C Company at Bellymena by redesignation of 'C' Company 4th Battalion.
 

1 July 1999: Battalion disbanded as result of the Strategic Defence Review and reorganised as The Royal Irish Rangers .
