Royal Logistic Corps, Volunteer Regiment (1993 - )

The Royal Logistic Corps was formed 1 April 1993 by amalgamation of the following corps: On this page only the lineage of the Royal Corps of Transport is concerned and its successor corps the Royal Logistic Corps.

150 (Northumbrian) Transport Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 at Londesborough Barracks, Hull from 150 (Northumbrian) Regiment RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
216 (Tyne Tees) Squadron at Tynemouth. Formed from 50 Northumbrian Division Regiment RCT (TA).
217 (Yorkshire) Squadron at Leeds. Formed from 66 (Yorkshire) and 103 (West Riding) Regiments RCT (TA).
218 (East Riding) Squadron Hull. Formed from 66 (Yorkshire) and 150 (Northumbrian) Regiments RCT (TA).
219 (West Riding) Squadron at Doncaster. Formed from 49 and 103 (West Riding) Regiments RCT (TA).

216 Squadron reroled as Artillery Support Squadron.

150 (Yorkshire) Transport Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Redesignated 1 April 1993.
Squadrons redesignated as Transport Squadron except 218 Squadron.
HQ Squadron redesignated 523 HQ Squadron   (re-use of pre-1967 squadron number)


151 (Greater London) Transport Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Croydon, London from elements 44 Home Counties Division, 54 East Anglian Division and 105 (Essex) Regiments RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
210 Ambulance Squadron at Redhill, Sutton, Croydon and Clapham. Formed from 44 Home Counties Division and 105 (Essex) Regiments RCT (TA).
215 (Essex) Squadron at Grays and Leigh on Sea. Formed from 54 East Anglian Division and 105 (Essex) Regiment RCT (TA).
240 (Hertfordshire) Tank Transporter Squadron at Barnet, Hitchin and Slough. Formed from 557 (Hertfordshire) Tank Transporter Squadron RCT (TA).
562 Parachute Squadron at Southall and Dulwich. Formed from 562 (Middlesex) Parachute Squadron RCT (TA).

1978: 562 Squadron became Brigade Support Squadron.

??? Reroled as a General Support Regiment.

151 (Greater London) Transport Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Redesignated 1 April 1993.
HQ Squadron redesignated 508 HQ Squadron (re-use of pre-1967 squadron number).
215 Squadron disbanded and formed troop 240 Squadron at Ilford.
Squadrons now at:
Sutton and Clapham; Barnet and Ilford; Acton, Southall and Dulwich.

1 July 1999: all squadrons became Transport squadrons.
124 Petroleum Squadron at Romford and Maidstone. Formerly independent squadron under command of 12 Supply Regiment RLC.


152 (Ulster) Transport Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Belfast from 68 (Northern Ireland) Regiment RCT (TA). Regiment absorbed also 539 (Ulster) Supply Company RAOC (TA) and 17 Supply Platoon RAOC (TA).

SQUADRONS:
211 Squadron at Belfast with Troop at Ballymena.
220 Squadron at Londonderry.

152 (Ulster) Ambulance Transport Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 by redesignation.
SQUADRONS:
HQ Squadron at Belfast.
211 Ambulance Transport Squadron at Londonderry and Coleraine.
220 Ambulance Transport Squadron at Belfast.

1 July 1999 Regiment reorganised.
SQUADRONS:
211 Ambulance Squadron at Londonderry with Troop at Coleraine.
220 Ambulance Squadron at Belfast.
580 Ambulance Squadron at Bridgend by transfer from 157 Transport Regiment RLC (V) .


153 (Highland) Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 at Dunfermline from 433 (Forth) Regiment RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
212 Ambulance Squadron at Dundee, Aberdeen and Dunblane. Formed from 51 Highland Division Regiment RCT (TA).
230 Squadron at Edinburgh. Formed from 52 Lowland Division and 69 (East Lowlands) Regiment RCT (TA).
231 Squadron at Dunfernline. Formed from 433 (Forth) Regiment RCT (TA).

1969: 239 (Highland Yeomanry) Squadron at Cupar, Kirkcaldy and Leven. Formed from The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry/Scottish Horse (T).

Regiment reroled as Artillery Support Regiment.
 

1 November 1992: 239 Squadron reroled as Yeomanry as 'C' (Fife and Forfar/Scottish Horse) Squadron The Scottish Yeomanry.

1 April 1993: Regiment amalgamated with 154 Transport Regiment RCT (V) to form The Scottish Transport Regiment RLC (V) .


154 (Lowland) Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with RHQ at Glasgow from 52 Lowland Division Regiment RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
221 Squadron at Glasgow. Formed from 528, 530 and 574 Squadrons (V).
222 Squadron at East Kilbride. Formed from 264 (Scottish) Regiment RCT (TA).

1969: 225 (Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry) Squadron at Grangemouth. Formed from The Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry (T).

1 April 1971: 251 Squadron formed at Irvine from cadre The Ayrshire Yeomanry.

1 November 1992: 225 Squadron and 222 Squadron reroled as Yeomanry as 'HQ' (Lothians and Border Horse) Squadron and 'B' (Lanarkshire and Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry) Squadron The Scottish Yeomanryrespectively.

1 April 1993: Regiment amalgamated with 153 Transport Regiment RCT (V) to form The Scottish Transport Regiment RLC (V) .


155 (Wessex) Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Taunton from 43 Wessex Division Regiment RE (TA) and 67 (Aldershot) Regiment RE (TA).

SQUADRONS:
232 Squadron at Plymouth with troop at Tavistock. Formed from 506 and 541 Ambulance Squadrons (TA).
233 Squadron at Southampton with troops at Weymouth and Portsmouth. Formed from 505 amd 920 Squadrons (TA).
245 Ambulance Squadron at Bristol with troop at Reading. Formed from 928 Ambulance Squadron RCT (TA).

1 April 1993: Regiment disbanded. 245 Squadron formed part 'B' Company 2nd Battalion The Wessex Regiment (V).


156 (Lancashire and Cheshire) Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Liverpool from 22 (Southport) Regiment RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
234 (Cheshire) Squadron at Birkenhead. Formed from 102 (Cheshire) Regiment RCT (TA).
235 (West Lancashire) Squadron at Liverpool. Formed from 22 (Southport) Regiment RCT (TA).
236 (East Lancashire) Squadron at Salford, Manchester. Formed from 42 Division Regiment RCT (TA).

1 January 1969: 238 Squadron formed at Bootle from 'C' Squadron The Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry (RTR) (T).

156 (Merseyside and Greater Manchester) Transport Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)
Redesignated 7 June 1980. Squadron recieved subtitles as follows:
'(Wirral)', '(Liverpool)', '(Greater Manchester)' and '(Sefton)'.

156 (North West) Transport Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Redesignated 1 April 1993.
235 Squadron disbanded; HQ Squadron retitled 235 HQ Squadron.


157 (Wales and Midlands) Transport Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1967 with Headquarters at Maindy Barracks from 53 Welsh Division Regiment RCT (TA).

SQUADRONS:
223 (South Wales) Squadron at Swansea with A Troop at Haverfordwest. Formed from 53 Welsh Division Regiment RCT (TA) with A Troop formed from The Pembrokeshire Yeomanry (Castlemartin) RAC (TA) .
237 (Midlands) Squadron at West Bromwich with Troop at Stoke-on-Trent. Formed from 48 Division Regiment RCT (TA).

1 January 1969: 224 (Pembrokeshire Yeomanry) Squadron at Carmarthen and Haverfordwest formed at Haverfordwest by expansion existing Troop 223 Squadron and 'A' Company The 4th (T) Battalion The Welch Regiment.

157 (Wales and Midlands) Transport Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Redesignated 1 April 1993.
1 October 1993: 580 Ambulance Squadron formed at Cardiff and Bridgend by merger 'D' Company 3rd (V) Battalion and 'C' Company 4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Regiment of Wales.
224 Squadron formed Troop at Llanelli from 'A' Company 4th (V) Battalion The Royal Regiment of Wales .
HQ Squadron redesignated 249 HQ Squadron.

1 July 1999: 580 Squadron transferred to 152 Ambulance Regiment RLC (V) .
Llanelli detachment 224 Squadron closed.

123 Combat Supply Squadron at Telford. Formerly independent squadron under command of 12 Supply Regiment RLC.
223 Transport Squadron at Swansea;

158 (Royal Anglian) Transport Regiment (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1996 with Headquarters at Peterborough by conversion of 5th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment .

200 (Peterborough) HQ Squadron at Peterborough by conversion 'HQ' Company 5th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
201 (Bedford) Squadron at Bedford by conversion '1' Company 5th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
202 (Ipswich) Squadron at Ipswich with detachment at Colchester by conversion 'B' Company 6th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
203 Squadron at Loughborough with detachment at Melton Mowbray by conversion '3' Company 5th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.


The Scottish Transport Regiment (Volunteers)

Formed 1 April 1993 by amalgamation of 153 (Highland) Regiment and 154 (Lowland) Regiment Royal Corps of Transport (Volunteers).

SQUADRONS:
527 HQ Squadron at Dunfermline.
221 Transport Squadron at Glasgow.
230 Transport Squadron at Edinburgh.
231 Transport Squadron at Dunfermline with Troop at Glenrothes.
251 Transport Squadron at Irvine.

1 July 1999: 231 Squadron moved to Glenrothes;
125 Rations Squadron at Glasgow attached to Regiment.

Specialist unit. Regimental Headquarters (Forward) at Middlesbrough.
Formed by rebadging personnel 6th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Volunteers), 4th/5th Battalion The Green Howards (Yorkshire Volunteers) and 7th Battalion The Light Infantry (Volunteers), 'footprint' retained.

SQUADRONS:
100 Pioneer Squadron at Cramlington (Sqn HQ and 1 and 2 Troops) with 3 Troop at Berwick-upon-Tweed and 4 Troop at Hexham.
104 Pioneer Squadron at Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough (Sqn HQ and 1 and 2 Troops) with 3 Troop at Hartlepool and 4 Troop at Washington.



Independent Squadrons A large number of Squadrons were formed in 1993 when independent companies from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps transferred to this Corps.

65 Petroleum Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Portsmouth by redesignation 93 Ordnance Company RAOC (V).
Disbanded 1 July 1999.

66 Stores Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Southall by redesignation 55 Ordnance Company RAOC (V). Later absorbed into 562 Brigade Support Squadron.

67 (Middlesbrough) Stores Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Stockton-on-Tees by redesignation of 22 Ordnance Company RAOC (V).
Disbanded 1 July 1999.

68 Vehicles Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Leeds by redesignation of 23 Ordnance Company RAOC (V). Absorbed into 217 Transport Squadron later.

123 Ammunition Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Telford by redesignation of 72 Ordnance Company RAOC (V); squadron under command 12 Supply Regiment RLC.
1 July 1999: Came under command 157 Transport Regiment RLC (V)  as 123 Combat Supply Squadron.

124 Petrol Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Romford by redesignation of 73 Ordnance Company RAOC (V); squadron was part of 12 Supply Regiment RLC.
1 July 1999: Came under command 151 Transport Regiment RLC (V) .

125 Rations Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Glasgow by redesignation of 94 (Scottish) Ordnance Squadron RAOC (V).
1 July 1999: Came under command The Scottish Transport Regiment RLC (V) .

126 Petrol Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Plymouth? Later reduced to 383 Commando Petroleum Troop RLC (V).

142 Vehicles Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Tonbridge by redesignation of ?? Ordnance Company RAOC (V). Disbanded by 1998.

143 Transit Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Formed 1 April 1993 at Ormskirk by redesignation of ?? Ordnance Company RAOC (V); part of 14 Supply Regiment RLC. Disbanded by 1997.

395 Air Despatch Troop Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers)
Became independent 1 April l993 upon disbandment 155 Regiment RCT (V). Located at RAF Lyneham.
