The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot)

Formed 28 February 1970 by amalgamation of The Worcestershire Regiment and The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment).

1st Battalion
Formed 28 February 1970 by merger of 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment and 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters.


3rd (Volunteer) Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot)

Formed 1 April 1971 with Headquarters and Administrative Platoon at Newark from the cadres of The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, The South Nottinghamshire Hussars Yeomanry (RHA) RA, The Derbyshire (T) Battalion, The Robin Hood (T) Battalion and The Nottinghamshire (T) Battalion The Sherwood Foresters.
(Note: battalion designated first as Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Battalion (Volunteers), but new title was approved by October 1971.)

COMPANIES:
A (Sherwood Rangers) Squadron at Retford from cadre The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry.
B (South Nottinghamshire Hussars) Battery at Beeston. Formed from cadre The South Nottinghamshire Hussars Yeomanry (RHA) RA.
C (Derbyshire Foresters) Company at Derby. Formed from cadre The Derbyshire (T) Battalion The Sherwood Foresters. Later Pltn formed at Chesterfield.
D (Robin Hood Foresters) Company at Nottingham. Formed from cadre The Robin Hood (T) Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters.
E (Nottinghamshire Foresters) Company at Newark with Pltn at Worksop. Formed from cadre The Nottinghamshire (T) Battalion The Sherwood Foresters. Later consolidated at Worksop.

1 April 1975: 'B' Battery at Beeston disbanded, personnel to 'D' Company. 'A' Squadron redesignated Company, and moved to Mansfield retaining detachment at Retford.

1977: 'B' (Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry) Company formed at Sutton-in-Ashfield and Ilkeston from elements The Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry Squadron 7th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment. Officially formed by 1 April 1978.

1 March 1980: Full 'HQ' Company established, possibly from part 'E' Company.

1 Januari 1985: 'F' (Nottinghamshire HSF) Company formed at Worksop, Mansfield and Nottingham; 'G' (Derbyshire HSF) Company formed at Derby and Chesterfield.

September 1992: reorganisation into three rifle company establishment.
'F' Company and 'G' Company disbanded.
'HQ' Company moved to Foresters House, Nottingham by redesignation of 'D' Company; Assault Pioneer and Recce Pltns at same location, GPMG (SF) Pltn at Mansfield.
'B' Company at Sutton-in-Ashfield absorbed into 'B' Squadron The Royal Yeomanry.

Disposition of rifle companies:
A Company at Mansfield with Pltn at Newark by amalgamation of 'HQ' Company and 'A' Company.
B Company at Worksop with Pltn at Chesterfield by amalgamation of 'E' Company and Chesterfield Pltn 'C' Company.
C Company at Derby with Pltn at Ilkeston by merger of 'C' Company and detachment of 'B' Company.
 

1 July 1999: Battalion disbanded as result of the Strategic Defence Review.
'A' Company, less Newark detachment, and 'C' Company, less Ilkeston detachment, amalgamated to form 'D' Company The East of England Regiment .
Remainder of companies either disbanded or reroled.


4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot) 

Formed 5 April 1988 with Headquarters at Kohima House, Redditch from the late Mercian Volunteers .

COMPANIES:
HQ Company at Kohima House, Redditch. New Formed.
A Company at Worcester with Pltn at Stourport. Formed by redesignation of 'A' Company 2nd Battalion Mercian Volunteers.
B Company at Kidderminster with Pltn at Droiwitch. Formed by redesignation of 'B' Company 1st Battalion Mercian Volunteers.
C Company at Shirley, Birmingham. New Formed.
D Company at Nottingham. Formed by redesignation of 'D' Company 1st Battalion Mercian Volunteers.
F (HSF) Company at Worcester. Formed by redesignation of 'F' Company 2nd Battalion Mercian Volunteers.
 

1 April 1993: Battalion disbanded as result of Options for Change.
7 June 1992 'F' (HSF) Company disbanded.
1 September 1992 'D' Company at Nottingham disbanded, personnel to 3rd Battalion.
1 November 1992 'A' Company at Worcester disbanded, personnel to 'B' Company.

1 December 1992 HQ and 'HQ' Company reroled as RHQ and 'HQ' Squadron 37 Signal Regiment (Volunteers).
9 November 1992 'B' Company at Kidderminster redesignated as 'A' Company 5th Battalion The Light Infantry (Volunteers)  retaining the Regimental Colours, uniform and dress of 4th Battalion.
16 November 1992 'C' Company at Shirley redesignated as 'C' Company 5th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers .
