Six brave Britons

Tune: John Barleycorn
Words: Francis Roads, 1991.

We came six Britons from out of the East,
our victory to seek.
To the USA we made our way
to play go there for a week.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

In sweltering heat to the congress hall
we Britons found our path.
They said: "Welcome to our sunny town,
we've closed our swimming bath."

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

They fed us on strange food, and tried
to make us die of thirst.
Of all our tribulations dire,
lack of beer, it was the worst.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

Those Yankees tried playing lightning go,
us Britons for to test.
But thunder, lightning, wind and rain
are what Britons know the best.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

They took us off to Niagara Falls
to see if we'd get drowned,
but all they lost was a Yankee player,
and even he got found.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

They organised a football match
to try to make us lame.
But they'd forgotten who it was
who taught the world the game.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

With a Board Meeting to drive us Brits
quite mad was their intent.
But we know talkers worse than that:
they're called our government.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

And when it came to banquet night,
we couldn't believe our eyes
to see that even humble Brits
were allowed to win a prize.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!

Come all you fine young British players,
take heed of what I say:
Though the Yankee players will try you sore,
in the end you'll win the day.

Sing San-Ren-Sei, the opening we play,
that one will win the day!
