Professional background
Ivo Adan studied mathematics at the Eindhoven University of Technology from
1980-1987 and wrote a masters thesis on the Monotonicity Properties in
Queueing Networks, under supervision of Jan van der Wal.
Immediately after finishing his masters thesis, he started to do research
for his Ph.D. thesis at the same university, under guidance of Jaap
Wessels and Henk Zijm. The main contribution of his thesis is the
development of a so-called compensation approach for
the analysis of the equilibrium behaviour of two-dimensional Markov
processes; see CWI Tract 104.
In October 1991 he joined the
Stochastic Operations
Research group at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where he is currently an associate professor. From August 2001 until July 2002 he visited the
Operations Research Department
of the University of North-Carolina. In December 2008 he also joined the
Operations Research and Management group
at the University of Amsterdam
as (part-time) full professor.
He serves on the editorial board of
Statistica Neerlandica,
Queueing Systems,
Asia Pacific Journal of Operations Research
and Mathematical Methods of Operations Research.
Ivo Adan is supervisor of the B-orientation in
the two-year program
Mathematics for Industry
and he is scientific advisor
of the research program Queueing and Performance Analysis of
Eurandom.
