**************************************************************** International Workshop on Applying Data Mining in e-Learning (ADML'07) (http://www.win.tue.nl/~mpechen/conf/adml07/) as part of the 2nd European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL07) Crete, Greece, September 17-20, 2007 **************************************************************** Submission deadline extended: June 25, 2007 Please distribute among interested students and colleagues *** CALL FOR PAPERS *** Recently, the increase in the dissemination of interactive learning environments has enabled the collection of huge amounts of data. A popular and effective way of discovering new knowledge from large and complex data sets is data mining. As such, the ADML'07 workshop invites papers that study how to apply data mining to analyze data generated by learning systems or experiments, and, also, how discovered information can be used to improve adaptation and personalization of the learning environment. Interesting problems data mining can help to solve are: what are common types of learning behavior (e.g. in online systems), how to predict the knowledge and interests of a user based on past behavior, how to partition a heterogeneous group of users into homogeneous clusters, etc. The ADML'07 workshop is organized in conjunction with the EC-TEL'07 conference. The workshop is related to the series of Educational data mining workshops organized in conjunction with the AAAI'05, AIED'05, ITS'06, AAAI'06, AIED'07, UM'07, and ICALT'07 conferences. It aims at providing a focused international forum for researchers to present, discuss and explore the state of the art of applying data mining in e-Learning and of evaluating the usefulness of discovered patterns for adaptation and personalization. The workshops will also outline promising future research directions. The ADML'07 workshop invites submissions addressing all aspects of applying data mining for adaptation and personalization in e-learning systems. The list of topics of interest includes: * methods and approached for data mining in e-Learning, * characteristics of educational data and how to deal with them, * learning browsing behaviour; e.g., searching for patterns in log-data from (time-series) experiments, * data mining for user modelling, * data mining for predicting user (potentially changing) interests, * mining differences in user's learning behaviour (e.g. between two systems), * mining data from A/B tests, * application of discovered patterns for personalization and adaptation, * description of applications, and * description of case studies and experiences. The workshop invites papers reporting experiences, case studies, surveys, reflections and comparisons. The submission format is on of the following: a full paper of up to 10 pages, a short paper of up to 5 pages, or an abstract for a poster of up to 3 pages. * IMPORTANT DATES * June 25, 2007(Extended) Submission of papers (LNCS, 10-pages maximum) July 15, 2007 Notification of acceptance August 1, 2007 Submission of camera-ready papers September 17-18, 2007 Workshop days at EC-TEL 2007 * SUBMISSION PROCEDURES * All submissions will be handled electronically. Please submit your contribution (up to 10 pages) before the submission deadline (June 15, 2007) to the ADML'07 workshop chairs by e-mail: cromero@uco.es. Each submission will be reviewed by at least three members of the workshop programme committee members. All accepted workshop papers will be published online in the EC-TEL workshop proceedings, as part of the CEUR Workshop proceedings series. CEUR-WS.org (ISSN 1613-0073) is a recognized ISSN publication series. For the camera-ready format instructions, please see the "For Authors" instructions at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html. The authors of the selected papers will be asked to prepare revised and substantially extended papers for inclusion in a post-conference book (approval pending). * TRACK CHAIRS * Cristobal Romero Cordoba University, Spain Mykola Pechenizkiy Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands Toon Calders Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands Silvia Rita Viola U.
