Conference Conference on Mathematics for Industry, at the
Technical University of Eindhoven.
- January 18-21, 2004: Systems Biology course and workshop in
Schoorl, Noord-Holland, the Netherlands.
- March 18-27, 2003: Mathematical understanding of complex patterns in the life sciences,
a workshop in the Lorentz Center in Leiden, organized in collaboration with
Danielle Hilhorst, Hiroshi Matano, and Masayasu Mimura.
- Febuary 2002:
42nd European Study
Group Mathematics with Industry, jointly organised by
the University of Amsterdam
(Geertje Hek,
Misja Nuyens,
Harmen van der Ploeg,
and Guido Terra)
and the CWI (Bob Planqué
and myself).
- The
Eurodiffusion project
(old page |
new page):
measuring the mixing of the euro-coins. Joint project
of ESGI and Scientific Magazine Natuur &
Techniek.
Public understanding of Science:
Started in November 2003, in the
Grote GriepMeting
(Dutch) we tried to get as many people as possible
to help us capture the yearly influenza epidemic
in the Netherlands and Belgium.
- ESGI and the Eurodiffusion project both created a fair amount of press
coverage.
-
Bouw
het
Beste Pakje 2001,
2002
(1)
and 2002 (2)
(build the best package, literally) where
visitors are invited to build a construction out of paper that will
hold as much weight as possible. The Rules are
- you can use more than one sheet of paper, but the result is divided
by the number
of sheets you use
- the minimal height is 17 cm
- you can use scissors and staples
-
Vouw
het Beste Vliegtuig
at the Open Dag 2003.
Fold a paper airplane that flies as far as possible. Use as much paper
as you wish, scissors,
glue, paperclips, staples, anything - as long as it goes a long way. The
only condition
is that the airplane is launched mechanically, from a launch pad (to
prevent the
strongest thrower from winning). Great fun, many people tried; the
winner: Wout, 12 years old, with 6 meters!
