I am a full professor ("hoogleraar" in Dutch) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of TU Eindhoven and a member of the Algorithms group.

Research Interests: Algorithms and data structures; discrete and computational geometry; applications of computational geometry to geographic information systems; graph drawing; visualization.

The video on the right is an attempt to explain my research interests to a broader audience ...

Teaching: Data Structures (2IL50) in the spring semester of 2015.

I am currently a member of The Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen). I am also a member of the Global Young Academy.
I won the first Netherlands Prize for ICT Research (see here for some more details in Dutch). Part of the prize was a poster which gives a high-level impression of my work and was sent to high schools all over the Netherlands.
I am co-organizing CG week 2015, which includes the 31st International Symposium on Computational Geometry (SoCG 2015), in Eindhoven, June 22-25, 2015.

Historical Remarks: Before I came to Eindhoven I was a postdoc in the Combinatorics, Geometry and Computation European Graduate Program at ETH Zurich. In Zurich I was a member of the Theory of Combinatorial Algorithms group headed by Emo Welzl. I received my Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where I was supervised by David Kirkpatrick and Jack Snoeyink.
