Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2013 16:43:21 +0100 From: Tom Verhoeff Subject: 2IP15: Deadlines + rework, grades, questions, written exam Message-ID: <20130328154321.GH4952@win.tue.nl> To: Active participants of 2IP15 (Programming Methods) [Email addresses suppressed] This message covers 4 topics (see the numbered headers). 1. Deadlines + Rework The deadline for the large programming assignment is Thu 04 Apr 2013 23:00 (see peach). If you want to complete the course, then you MUST submit something that can be considered a serious attempt before this deadline. (If you no longer intend to complete the course, please inform me.) NOTE that this is an INDIVIDUAL assignment. You must only submit your own work. If you know in advance that you will not be able to complete this assignment before the deadline, then CONTACT US AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Explain why you cannot meet the deadline and ask for an extension. You still must submit whatever you have done, and there must be a sufficient basis in order to get an extension. If you still have more than one homework assignment missing, then you must fix that as soon as possible. See the FAQ. Missing assignments can also be compensated by doing the optional Relation assignments. If you get an insufficient grade for the large programming assignment (in particlar < 4.0), then you can repair this through rework, provided there is a sufficient basis for this (that is, the submission shows that you have made a serious attempt). The deadline for rework is [Sun 16 Jun] 2013 23:00, so that we can combine this result with the resit of the written exam in [June]. Of course, you can submit earlier. If you pass the written exam in April, then we can calculate an updated final grade more quickly. [N.B. The dates were corrected after the email was sent.] 2. Final grade algorithm The final grade algorithm on the course' web page has been updated. In particular, you get one (partial) grade for the large programming assignment. The grade for the model part will be incorporated, but if you made improvements to the model part, then your improved model will be used for grading. That way, you can compensate for a low grade for the model part. Explicitly indicate improvements that you made to the model in the package-info.java file for the model package. Partial grades will be rounded to one decimal; the final grade is an integer. 3. Questions On Thu 04 Apr 2013 10:45 - 12:30 (at the latest, we stop earlier when possible) there will be a question-and-answer session for the written exam. To ensure that your questions will be addressed, mail them to me in advance. For last-minute questions concerning the large programming assignment, contact your instructor (see Cc). N.B. There is no lab session on Fri 29 Mar and no lecture and instruction on Mon 01 Apr, because the university is closed. 4. Written exam It is a closed-book exam, without laptop. The material for the written exam has been clearly marked on the course' web pages. In short: + the design patterns book by Eddie Burris + the two extra chapters (Composite, Command) + the slides (except "Look Ahead" in Lecture 14) + the handouts: Notation, Specification, TDD, Callbacks (Notation and Specification: mainly to be able to read the notation and specifications; not to write them.) Note that the book's web site contains relevant review questions. Sincere regards, Tom Verhoeff -- E-MAIL: T.Verhoeff (a) TUE.NL | Dept. of Math. & Comp.
