We describe two methods for computing with elements of the untwisted groups of Lie type:
the Steinberg presentation and highest weight representations.  We give practical algorithms
for element operations within the Steinberg presentation.  Conversion between these
two representations is acheived using a generalisation of the classical
LUP algorithm.
