Welcome to my home page. I am a full professor in Business Informatics at the Department of Computer Science of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where I lead the Business Informatics group. I am also a part-time full professor in the AIS group of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). My research and teaching focus on business process management, data analytics, and conceptual modeling. I am closely cooperating with companies from the services and healthcare domains, as well as with various international scholars. Things on my agenda:

. The second edition of our popular BPM textbook, "Fundamentals of Business Process Management", is out. Just as its predecessor, this is a joint effort by Marlon Dumas, Marcello La Rosa, Jan Mendling, and myself. By now, the book is in use in classes of more than 200 different universities. Check out the accompanying website for slides, video lectures, figures and other supplementary material.
. In June, the 30th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE 2018) will take place in Tallinn, Estonia. John Krogstie and I are the PC chairs for this year's edition. The program of the conference is now available. Specifically, have a look at the great keynotes.
. On May 24, I will be giving a talk at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana. See the abstract.
. I am the educational director of the MSc. program in Information Sciences at the VU. Feel free to reach out when you are considering to enroll or have other questions about the program.
. You may have ended up here because you are looking for an interesting master project. In that case, send me your resume, a listing of your study results, and the topics you are interested in. You may want to look at our BusI group website for some examples of ongoing projects.
. I am receiving a lot of emails by prospective PhD students who inquire about how to join our "PhD program". The setting in the Netherlands is different than in many other countries: PhD positions are jobs, for which you must apply. So, please check sites like for vacancies.
