First impressions
The first two month of our stay in Japan, we lived in the Ajia Kaikan in
the center of Tokyo. Although the Japanese language course was still going
on at the Japan-Netherlands Institute, we preferred exploring Tokyo. On
this page you'll find some first tourist-like impressions of Japan: the
packed subway trains, the Toyota car gallery,
the fish market, a sushi restaurant
and a ramen (Japanese noodles) restaurant.
Subway
Something one gets used to remarkably soon:
the ever-crowded subways of Tokyo.
This photo shows a not-even-that-crowded train at Shibuya station.

Fish market
Get up early and have a look at the fish market,
followed by a sushi breakfast in one of the many
restaurants close to the market halls.

Sushi restaurant
A sushi restaurant, where you just pick the plates
you fancy from the belt. The chef who prepares the sushi
is in the middle and adds new dishes. The amount
of money you have to pay in the end is calculated from
your stack of empty dishes; different types of sushi have
differently colored dishes.
