       7.1 Overview of Surge-Net

Surge-Net is a Thematic Network funded as part of the European Commission's Framework-5 programme. It is led by the University of Newcastle and it has members from 8 European countries. It addresses all aspects of transients and surge in pipes and pipelines and it has 8 Work Packages, namely:

1) Software Best Practice

2) Transient Analysis and Life-Cycle Costs / Multiphase

3) Leakage Detection

4) Collection of Data

5) Fluid-Structure Interaction and Unsteady Skin Friction

6) Mapping of European Resources and Expertise

7) Preparation for Further Activity

8) Network Management and User Groups

The primary purpose of Surge-Net is to bring together people with an interest in fluid transients. Members include researchers, consultants and (perhaps most important) users of pipes. If you would like to know more about Surge-Net and, perhaps, become a member, click <here>.
