Description

Datasets with geographic positions and associated attributes are abundantly available. To show such data often a small glyph that visually encodes some of the attributes, is positioned at the recorded location. To add the necessary context this visualization uses a geographic map as background. The problem that then occurs has to do with the visibility of the glyphs. In order for the glyphs to be visible on the background map, their colours should differ sufficiently from the colours in the map. The problem that is tackled in this assignment is automatically finding colours, given the choice of a background map, that sufficiently stand out on the given map.

The resulting algorithms have to be evaluated in a user test. If time permits this user evaluation can be done by deploying a game in order to do a relative large scale community evaluation.
