Welcome to my home page. I am a full professor in Business Informatics at the Department of Computer Science of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where I lead the Business Informatics group. I am also a part-time full professor in the AIS group of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). My research and teaching focus on business process management, workflow technology, business process improvement, and conceptual modeling. I am closely cooperating with companies from the services and healthcare domains, as well as with various international scholars. Things on my agenda:

. Om May 22, we will organize the next session of our BPM Round Table initiative at the VU. The focus will be on the use of Blockchain in a BPM context. Register ahead if you wish to attend; the session will be in Dutch. A recent arXiv article closely relates to this topic.
. In June, I will attend ECIS 2017 in Portugal. I am particularly looking forward to attend the sessions of the Business Process Management track, which are planned on June 8 and June 9.
. Together with Frank van Harmelen and Ellen Maassen, I am teaching a course on "Computational Thinking" (900223ACC/SCI) at the Amsterdam University College.
. The CAiSE conference, which is held in Essen this year, is in my travel plans as well. In the main program, there are a number of papers that I contributed to, all joint work with colleagues from the VU and TU/e. In the EMMSAD workshop, which precedes the main conference, I will join a panel: "Empirical Evaluation of Modeling Artifacts: Tales from the Front Line". Sounds interesting, right?
. It's been some four years since "Fundamentals of Business Process Management" was published, a book by Marlon Dumas, Marcello La Rosa, Jan Mendling, and myself. By now, the book is in use in more than 175 BPM classes, across educational institutes on all continents - save Antarctica.
. I am the educational director of the MSc. program in Information Sciences at the VU. Feel free to reach out when you are considering to enroll or have other questions about the program.
. You may have ended up here because you are looking for an interesting master project. In that case, send me your resume, a listing of your study results, and the topics you are interested in. You may want to look at previous thesis projects I supervised.
