Welcome to my home page. I am a full professor in Business Informatics at the Department of Computer Science of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), where I am head of the Business Informatics group. Furthermore, I am a part-time full professor in the AIS group of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). My research and teaching focus on business process management, workflow technology, business process improvement, and conceptual modeling. I am closely cooperating with companies from the services and healthcare domains, as well as with various international scholars. Things on my agenda:

. I just returned from a visit to Uruguay, where I gave a keynote during the BPMuy event. On invitation of Andrea Delgado of the Universidad de la Rep˙blica, I also met with the members of the ICT4V project to exchange ideas.
. Through a grant of NWO, my group started working on the AMUSE project. In this project, we collaborate with Utrecht University and AFAS Software to develop new techniques for the management of extremely large software systems. From the side of the VU, also Dennis Schunselaar and ▄nal Aksu are involved.
. I will be attending the CAiSE conference in Ljubljana in June. Two papers that I worked on with my colleagues have been accepted for the main program. Other work that I am involved in will be presented at the preceding BPMDS working conference.
. In July, I will visit the School of Information Systems of Queensland University of Technology. It has been four years since my last visit, so I am looking forward to catch up with the people there.
. On June 26, 2015, I gave my inaugural speech as a full professor at the VU. You can still read the text if you did not manage to get your hands on a booklet.
. It's been some three years since "Fundamentals of Business Process Management" was published, a book by Marlon Dumas, Marcello La Rosa, Jan Mendling, and myself. By now, the book is in use in more than 100 BPM classes, across educational institutes on all continents - save Antarctica.
. I am the educational director of the MSc. program in Information Sciences at the VU. Feel free to reach out when you are considering to enroll or have other questions about the program.
. You may have ended up here because you are looking for an interesting master project. In that case, send me your resume, a listing of your study results, and the topics you are interested in. You may want to look at previous thesis projects I supervised.
