Short bio

Research focus

My research focuses on data-intensive systems, with a preference for managing unbounded data streams and distributed/scale-out algorithms. I like developing/combining approximate algorithms with hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs) and Big Data platforms.

  • May 2024: I have an open PhD position on streaming data management. Read more about it here
  • May 2024: Join us at ICDE'24. Together with Themis Palpanas and Dimitris Skoutas we are organizing the inaugural workshop on Multivariate Time Series Analytics. My team has a presentation at the workshop, and a lightning talk at the main conference on why we should start working on algorithms for detection of multivariate correlations.
  • Oct. 2023: The work OmniSketch: Efficient Multi-Dimensional High-Velocity Stream Analytics with Arbitrary Predicates, led by Wieger Punter, and together with Minos Garofalakis, was accepted as a full paper at VLDB'23
  • Oct. 2023: The work Efficient detection of multivariate correlations with different correlation measures, led by Jens d'Hondt, and together with Koen Minartz, as accepted for publication at the VLDB Journal
  • Oct. 2023: Together with Themis Palpanas and Dimitris Skoutas, we are organizing the first workshop on Multivariate Time Series Analytics at ICDE'24
  • Nov. 2022: The work TokenJoin: Efficient Filtering for Set Similarity Join with Maximum Weighted Bipartite Matching, led by Alexandros Zeakis, and together with Dimitrios Skoutas, Dimitris Sacharidis, and Manolis Koubarakis was accepted as a full paper at VLDB'23
  • Nov. 2022: Three awards for Koen Minartz and his thesis on multivariate correlations: Koen received the CS Master thesis award and the TU/e-wide Master thesis award, as well as the KHMW Young talent award!
  • Nov. 2022: Correlation Detective has its own space now. Read about the project here
  • June 2022: In the context of a recently funded EU project, we have PhD and Postdoc vacancies. Topics: big data management, approximations, and correlations. Feel free to contact me for more details.
  • March 2022: Our work on discovery of multivariate correlations (with Koen Minartz and Jens d'Hondt) was accepted as a full paper at VLDB'22: Paper and Technical report, code, demo material . If you are interested to see more, contact us.
