General information

Audience: 2DN40: Applied Physics (Ma year 1)
2DE15: Electrical Engineering (Ma year 1)
  Goals:
An introduction to the basic theory of complex analytical functions and some applications, in order to get acquainted with a number of methods and techniques applicable to other parts of mathematics and engineering.
Note: the lecture notes contain at the end of each chapter a section with physical applications. The students are expected to study these applications, but they are not part of the exams.
  Contents:
  • Analytical functions, power series, conformal mapping
  • Complex integration, singularities, residues
  • Series of analytical functions, Taylor series, Laurent series
  • Application of residues to the calculation of integrals
  • Fourier and Laplace transforms
